I got some excellent Melbourne, Florida pop-punk for you today!
I remember playing shows with Four Year Fight like it was yesterday, I remember them breaking up, and I remember seeing them from time to time after we were all no longer in bands. It was either our 2nd or 3rd show that we played with them first, and we've been friends since. We both signed to the short lived Fairfax Records (local label operated by The Influence), and stayed around Melbourne for our teen years.
I still remember seeing Zach from time to time before he moved. One time I saw a mysterious figure with a bandana over his face two-stepping towards me at walmart. Good times. I really miss watching this band play.

The Culprits - 1513
Disclaimer: I do not have expressed permission by this band to upload this album, however after years of looking for it and offering to buy it from them (with no response), I got lucky one night on soul seek (after a certain jerk "lost" my favorite cd). If anyone in The Culprits wants me to take this album down I will. If you like this album, the follow up "Nora" is available on itunes.
I gotta say, if it weren't for this album, I probably wouldn't have gotten to punk like I did. When I was about 14, I was straight edge and had been into punk for a few years, with some dabbling in the realm of hardcore. One night at a youth group event on the beach, two major things impacted my life. First, I met a girl who led me on until I was 20 and had moved from Melbourne. More importantly and more meaningful than anything I had with that girl, I heard this CD.
I gotta say, if it weren't for this album, I probably wouldn't have gotten to punk like I did. When I was about 14, I was straight edge and had been into punk for a few years, with some dabbling in the realm of hardcore. Straight edge is everywhere today. If you Google search “Kristen Stewart and Minor Threat,” you'll find a picture of her with an "Out of Step" t-shirt on that she wore to a press conference. In the search results you can find links to where you can buy your very own "Out of Step" t-shirt. The irony of this would make many-a-person growing up in the early 1980s either giggle or become really pissed off. For me, seeing Kristen Stewart with a straight edge themed t-shirt is just confusing. I mean, everyone knows that she smokes marijuana, right? However I find myself wondering if maybe this isn’t actually bad for straight edge. A young boy or girl can be like "Oh hey, Bella is wearing that cool t-shirt, what is a Minor Threat?", thus allowing the straight edge community to grow. Or more likely, they could just wear it for a week to make a fashion statement, which is actually a pretty good metaphor for the straight edge craze that went on in my teen years.

More new music! Not by me!
So I've got 2 other bands for your listening pleasure!
First.
The Influence IS my favorite local band of all time. I still remember listening to their demo for the first time at band practice and not thinking much of it. It was during one of my, only listening to punk stages. However, I've got to say this is the best band to have come out of my home town. At this point I probably sound like a rabid fanboy, or trying to suck up to one of the band members. Maybe I am a rapid fan boy but they deserve it.

Times they are a-changin
In some ways it's hard to look back and see the insecure kid I was in my young teens. I still remember borrowing a friend's Officer Negative shirt, and my mom spiking my long curly hair for my first show, so that I could go see The Culprits at EGCC. As a Christian school kid from a conservative family, it took some convincing to be allowed to go.
